Camera Module Industry Chain and Operating Principles
In the entire camera module industry chain, OFILM’s camera module business occupies a midstream position. The upstream components include lenses, voice coil motors, infrared filters, image sensors, and more, while the downstream segment comprises various smartphone brands. The core technology underlying camera module manufacturing is the packaging process. Camera module manufacturers procure upstream components and, using specific packaging techniques, assemble these components into finished camera modules, which they then sell to downstream customers.
With the advancement of technology, camera modules not only need to meet increasingly sophisticated photographic capabilities, but the development of smartphones is also continuously driving camera modules toward being lighter, thinner, and more compact. This trend has become one of the primary drivers behind the ongoing evolution of camera module packaging technologies.
A camera module is a complex system integrating optics, mechanics, electronics, and software/hardware. Its manufacturing process places high demands on the coordination among various production stages as well as on the technical expertise of each stage.
The working principle of a camera module is as follows: Light from the scene being photographed passes through the lens, forming an optical image that is projected onto the image sensor. The light signal is then converted into an electrical signal by photodiodes. Next, an analog-to-digital conversion circuit (A/D) transforms the resulting analog signal into a digital signal, performs preliminary signal processing, and outputs the processed signal. Finally, the data is further processed by the ISP and ultimately converted into an image that can be displayed on the phone screen.
As the trend toward thinner and lighter mobile phones continues to gain momentum, and as consumer demand for enhanced camera performance rises, OFILM will continue to develop and expand in the area of camera modules.
